Welcome to Clinical Rounds
Learning and Teaching the Disciplines through Clinical Rounds (Clinical Rounds) is a University of Michigan School of Education (SOE) preservice teacher education program that has drawn local and national attention for:
- integrating literacy teaching and learning into secondary subject area instruction,
- deepening prospective teachers’ knowledge of disciplinary literacy teaching and assessment practices, and
- reducing the fragmentation preservice teachers typically face in a professional program situated in multiple sites (the university education department, other university departments, and K-12 schools).
Clinical Rounds began in 2005 as a collaboration between education professors Bob Bain and Elizabeth Moje, and its pilot focused exclusively on the training of undergraduate preservice social studies teachers. Since then, Clinical Rounds has grown to include methods instructors, field instructors, interns, and practicing classroom teachers across five content areas: social studies, mathematics, science, English language arts, and world languages.
